Upper Hunter Mining Dialogue

C-Res Business Engagement Advisor, Lisa Harpley and Local Buying Specialist BHP, Kristy Marks, attended the Upper Hunter Mining Dialogue’s annual forum on Tuesday 20 November at Muswellbrook Race Club. The Upper Hunter Dialogue brought together local miners, community representatives, business leaders, environmental groups, regulators and other local industries to identify, discuss and address challenges and impacts of mining in the Upper Hunter.

Key topics this year were local procurement and purchasing for mining industry partners to help small and medium enterprises understand how to access opportunities in the local mining sector.

BHP Global Supply Team Visit Local Suppliers

The Upper Hunter had a visit from Brisbane based Todd Kleinschafer and Julia Nest from the BHP Supply team, and Kristy Marks the BHP Local Buying Specialist in November. The team visited some Local Buying Program suppliers including Wear Parts Services, Custom Fluidpower and Briken Group to see how the LBP has helped their business, hear some of the challenges they are facing and see what progress they are making.

The BHP team were amazed with the quality and innovation of suppliers we have here in the Upper Hunter and suppliers enjoyed personally meeting the team from BHP and were thankful for the opportunity to be involved with the visits.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy Campaign Using Local Supplier

When BHP buyer, Kayla Lawrence, wanted to implement the Nicotine Replacement Therapy Campaign for Mt Arthur Coal (MAC) to assist employees to quit smoking and improve their health, she was surprised to see that there was not a suitable supplier registered on the Local Buying Program to supply her with the Nicotine Replacement products she required.

Kayla reached out to Lisa Harpley, Business Engagement Advisor for the Local Buying Program in NSW, who then engaged with a local supplier Muswellbrook Priceline Pharmacy to register for the LBP so they were able to supply the products required for the Nicotine Replacement Therapy campaign.

This has provided opportunity for the local supplier, Muswellbrook Priceline Pharmacy to expand services and supply MAC with these products and support the MAC employees with their quit smoking process.
